NEBRASKA CORN CHECKOFF UPDATE

NCB, NeCGA Launch “Sustaining Innovation” Campaign:  The Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association (NeCGA) have launched the “Sustaining Innovation” campaign aimed at promoting the many positive aspects of farming today.  The information follows up on the national Corn Farmers Coalition (www.cornfarmerscoalition.org) campaign targeted toward the Washington DC area and partially sponsored by the NCB.  The “Sustaining Innovation” campaign includes radio and print advertising, along with truck billboards that are directed at more of the urban audience.  More information on the campaign can be found at www.nebraskacorn.org; click on the “Sustaining Innovation” icon.

Nebraska, Iowa Corn and Beef Producers Promote Beef in South Korea, Japan:  Leaders from the Nebraska Corn Board, Nebraska Beef Council, Iowa Corn Promotion Board and Iowa Beef Industry Council took the opportunity to participate in beef promotions in South Korea and Japan over the past week.  The mission, organized by the US Meat Export Federation, had the goal of promoting high-quality Nebraska, Iowa and US beef in these key markets.  Attending on the behalf of the Nebraska Corn Board, were farmer-directors, Mark Jagels of Davenport and Alan Tiemann of Seward.  Also attending on behalf of the Nebraska Beef Council, was Dave Hamilton, director and producer from Thedford, along with three Iowa producers.

Producers Encouraged to Get Updated on ACRE:  The Nebraska Corn Board is encouraging producers to sign up and access a free webinar co-supported by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) at 8 am (CST) on Wednesday, July 1st.  The topic of the webinar will be the ACRE program and decisions that producers will have to examine prior to signing up.  To get more information, register or access the webinar, go to www.ncga.com.  The webinar will be led by Ohio State University economist, Carl Zulauf, along with Bard Karmen and Brent Orr of the Farm Service Agency.

IA, IL, NE Corn Boards Receive Update on Texas:  A joint mission of the Nebraska Corn Board, Iowa Corn Promotion Board and Illinois Corn Marketing Board recently took select representatives to Texas to receive updates on the corn, livestock and ethanol industries.  While in Texas, the group met with the BNSF, Texas Grain and Feed Association, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, Northern Plains Groundwater Conservation District and Texas Corn Growers Association along with various livestock producers to gain a perspective on issues of importance and corn and distillers grains usage in the area.  The discussions allowed the group to gain a better understanding of issues of water concerns, corn imports and possible exports and distillers grains usage across the various species.  Attending from the Nebraska Corn Board was farmer director Curt Friesen of Henderson and Kelly Brunkhorst, ag program manager.  

NCB Supports NDA Led Beef Industry Tour:  In a continuing effort to promote Nebraska’s beef industry, the Nebraska Corn Board is supporting “The Big Sky Cattle Drive”, a tour led by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA).  The four-day tour will take Nebraska cattle feeders and allied industry representatives to Montana, with stops and meetings along the way, to meet with their counterparts and develop relationships to promote their own and Nebraska’s cattle feeding industry.  Montana is a key exporter of feeder cattle to Nebraska’s many cattle feeding operations.  The tour dates are August 18 – 21; more information can be gathered by calling the NDA at 402.471.4876.    

NCB Attends Pawnee Pow-Wow Celebration:  The Nebraska Corn Board attended and supported an event that brought leaders of the Pawnee Indian tribe back to Nebraska.  The event was part of a larger celebration of the Pawnee tribe and their early corn genetics.  Don Hutchens, NCB executive director spoke during the event, which was held at the Great Platte River Road Archway in Kearney.
